America was never that great. This is the message that New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, released Wednesday when he attempted to criticize President Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.” There are many who have already started to call this latest message his 2020 campaign slogan after Andrew Cuomo told a gathering of people in New York that he does not believe President Trump can fulfill his campaign promise. While speaking to the people who gathered together Andrew Cuomo said, “we’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great.” As an American myself I have to wonder if his speech writer just doesn’t like America very much or if they don’t like Cuomo because telling Americans that our country was never that great really seems like a good way to commit political suicide before his run for president could even get started.
Andrew Cuomo’s message of how great America never was continued when he said, “we have not reached greatness, we will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged, we will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping against women, 51 percent of our population, is gone and every woman’s full potential is realized and unleashed and every woman is making her full contribution.”
Almost as soon as the governor of New York opened his mouth and the words America was never that great came out, Andrew Cuomo‘s press secretary realized that this was not the kind of message that the Democrat should try to present to the American people. Within moments his press secretary was issuing a statement retracting the statement that Andrew Cuomo made when he said America was never that great.
In a statement that had been given to mainstream media she said, “the Governor believes America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman, and child has full equality. America has not yet reached its maximum potential. When the President speaks about making America great again – going back in time – he ignores the pain so many endured and that we suffered from slavery, discrimination, segregation, sexism and marginalized women’s contributions. The Governor believes that when everyone is fully included and everyone is contributing to their maximum potential, that is when America will achieve maximum greatness.”
The press secretary of Andrew Cuomo can try to issue all of the retractions that she wants. The moment that he said America was never that great he opened a can of worms that he never should have opened, because proud patriotic Americans were not having it. A group of proud Americans took to Twitter and tore into Cuomo over the message that he had just gotten done delivering to the American people. Below are some of my personal favorites as Americans let their voices be heard.
I personally do not want to say that there’s no way that Andrew Cuomo could win the 2020 presidential election with a campaign slogan that tells Americans all over the country that America was never that great. I mean America did put in a man named Barrack Hussein Obama. However, if this is the best that the Democrat party has to offer then they are in more trouble than any of us could have imagined possible.
