Upstate New York Community Fears That The Ku Klux Klan Want Their Children

Parents in upstate New York City have recently become concerned for their children after fliers for the Ku Klux Klan were found at the end of their driveways Friday mornings. As alarming as racist propaganda from the well known hate group should be to anyone no matter what their political values are, what was more alarming for these parents were the candy bars that came along with the signs. These candy bars is what has lead the parents to believe that the Ku Klux Klan have recently started trying to recruit children into their group.

One resident of upstate New York told main stream media, “they come between 4 and 6 in the morning so the candy bars and packets are at the end of the driveway when kids are getting on the school bus. The community they hit was a mobile home park so there were a lot of kids in the area, and they hit on some of the side roads, too. Our feeling was that the children (were) being targeted — at least the high school and middle school kids in that age group.”

On these fliers someone would see a member of the Ku Klux Klan in full robe attire riding a horse in front of a hybrid between a confederate flag and a Betsy Ross flag. At the top of the flier it reads “Join The Klan and Save Our Land!!!” It provides a website address and a physical address while encouraging those who received the fliers to contact the national office.

A local teacher and historian said, “the KKK is a terrorist organization, and even dropping off these materials itself is terrifying, especially when you find something like this in your driveway in the morning. It requires a response, and the only way to get through that fear is to stand up and come together. I think the worst part is that a lot of kids found it on the way to the bus in the morning.”

The bags were found around the area of a single road according to local authorities and residents have been strongly encouraged to contact investigators if they notice anything suspicious.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo have spoken out against fliers that are advertising the Ku Klux Klan and have given the local authorities instructions to investigate the situation. It was clear that he holds President Trump partly responsible for the situation that has reached the upstate New York community when he called him a contributing factor to a hate that is spreading across the country like a cancer.

In a news release New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said, “I have directed State Police to investigate the appalling distribution of KKK material in several counties and send a clear message that New York has zero tolerance for intolerance. Today more than ever, New York must fight against hate crimes and stand as a beacon of equality and diversity.”

While the recruitment of young children to fill the ranks of any hate group is alarming and needs to be addressed this was not the first time that the Ku Klux Klan have used candy to try to entice people to reach out to them.
