Mass Shooting And Suicide Prevented At Disney World Resort

The magic of Walt Disney is something that every child should experience at least once in their life time. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Winnie the Pooh, all of these will forever be iconic legends in the history of our childhood. As we get older we stop watching cartoons as much as we did when we were younger. There are some places in the world that can take us back to that golden age of when we were children ourselves. On the west coast in Anaheim, California there is Disney Land. On the other side of the country near Orlando, Florida there is Disney World. No matter what their race or gender may be there are a large number of people who would consider these two places to be among the happiest places in the world.

23 year old Derek Eitel is not one of those people who have such a warm sentiment toward Disney that a lot of us do. It was ABC news who first reported on this situation earlier this week. The 23 year old Florida man was arrested after he threatened to perform a mass shooting at Disney World. The post that contained the threat was seen on the social media platform known as Facebook. Derek Eitel posted his threat of a mass shooting to a group that has 850 members it. The post that was placed by Eitel allegedly said, “5 likes and I’ll go shoot up Disney and hang myself.”

It was only after law enforcement was tipped off by two members of the group that the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department learnt of the threat that Derek Eitel had made. While it can only be assumed there was no incident in the arrest of Derek Eitel since none had been mentioned by any other source, Eitel confessed to the Facebook post after he was brought into the station. Derek Eitel told the arresting officers that he had sent the Facebook post from his phone while he was at work. He is currently in jail with a bond that has been set for $100,000.

Sadly mass shootings have become more and more common place in the United States. So much so that over the last couple years they have become declared a public health emergency by the country’s health monitoring organizations. According to recent reports since the beginning of the current year 31 people have lost their lives in school shootings in the United States. In that same time period 29 military personnel have died according to data gathered from a Department of Defense analysis.
