It has not even been six months since the incident that put David Hogg in the spotlight occurred and already there has been another gun related incident that comes out of Florida. After a 24 hour stand off police discovered a nightmarish scene that would make any parent want to go home and hug their own son or daughter. Despite their best efforts police were unsuccessful in negotiating of four children who were taken hostage. The ages of the children are reported as 1, 6, 10, and 11. Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. took the four children hostage after police responded Sunday night to a domestic violence call. Lindsey apparently shot all four children before he took his own life in a murder suicide.
The incident began late Sunday night after a woman called the police to report that Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. abused her. Officer Kevin Valencia remains in critical condition after he was shot when Lindsey opened fire on the responding police officers. It has been reported by multiple sources that all four children did not belong to Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. Two of the children that he killed were his own children while the other two belonged to his girlfriend from a previous relationship.
More than 40 officers were on the scene and evacuated nearby apartments as negotiators and the SWAT teams tried to resolve the highly intense situation without further violence. For those of us who did not have to be there and take responsibility for the safety of those four children it is impossible to imagine how heartbreaking it must be for the Authorities that this situation ended the way that it did.
Although Officer Valencia remains in intensive care at this point in time it is believed that the brave officer will make survive. That is the good news. The bad news where Kevin Valencia is concerned is that he has sustained very significant injuries in the line of duty. This is a very hard and traumatic time for both the Orlando police who had to respond to this unfortunate situation as well as the families who lost loved ones due to the criminal behavior of Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. It is asked that people keep the families and the officer Kevin Valencia in their prayer during this sensitive period of time.
Even before Gary Wayne Lindsey Jr. took four children hostage and killed them, Today was going to be a sad day for many people in Florida. It has been two years since 49 people lost their lives in one of the worse massacres in U.S. history at the Pulse nightclub. Florida Governor Rick Scott started the day off by asking Floridans to allow a moment of silence to honor the 49 victims who were killed at Pulse nightclub two years ago. Flags were flown at half staff all over the state of Florida in honor of their memory today.
Honoring the memory of those who lost their lives at the Pulse night club in Orlando, Florida two years ago was done across the nation as well. 149 churches across the nation rang their bells one time for each person killed at the nightclub two years ago. At a quiet gathering at one church in Orlando this morning each of the victims names were read after each of the 49 dongs of the church’s bell.
Before that horrible 2017 October night in Las Vegas the massacre that occurred at the Pulse nightclub in 2016 was the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.
