I might get owned by my fellow co-workers but hear me out because this is really interesting.
I hate to break it to you but there are feminists in Canada! And no, not women who are complaining about microaggressions and about slut shaming but just real women who are fighting against oppression going on in the Middle East and the sexist culture that has affected woman in the west because of extremist ideologies.
I have had countless conversations with different women from the Middle East to hear their stories from there. They even laughed when they heard that western women were marching in support of their opposition towards President Donald Trump. They also asked why would they put a muslim woman with a hijab as a symbol of empowerment when they see the garment has oppression in their countries.
It’s like a slap to the face to those activists in the late 70s who were protesting against the Islamic revolution.
Suffragettes Against Silence is bringing back first-wave feminism.
The original Suffragettes are the women who fought for the right to vote. They worked hard to obtain women to vote 100 years ago.
The Famous Five were five Alberta women who asked the Supreme Court of Canada to answer the simple question, “Does the word ‘Persons’ in Section 24 of the British North America Act, 1867, include female persons?”
The Famous Five had included honorable figures such as Emily Murphy, Irene Parlby, Louise McKinney, Henrietta Edwards and Nellie McClung. These virtuous women sought to have women legally considered as people so that women could be appointed to the Senate.
The petition was filed on August 27 of 1927, and on the 24th of April of the following year, the Supreme Court of Canada decided unanimously that women are not such “persons”. This case was later won in the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
So these modern Suffragettes hold the same principles and values of those great women in the late 20th century. They believe in equality and the fight for their voices to be heard by their government.
This past weekend, they were protesting against MPs who are allowing the controversial motion, M-103 to happen in Ontario.
These ladies started off with a letter addressing the MPs on how allowing this ludicrous motion will protect the Imams to continue to spew hate speech with no consequences.
They also addressed on the case of the Shafia girls in which they were killed as “honor killings” by their own father. They also voiced their concerned to have muslim doctors to be checked to prevent any genital mutilation which has bought out cases in North America.
Other attendees in this protest were men who the ladies considered as Suffragettes and host personal Kevin J. Johnson.
The group then followed by singing Canada’s National Anthem, as well as the Suffragettes anthem, then did the Lord Prayers to conclude the protest.
As watching these ladies, I can see the concerns they have for the future of children and grandchildren in Canada. Their agenda is to ensure that these children will inherit a free society.
Since events in which where Imams have promoted wife beating, inequality and strong consequences for breaking rules, these women will keep speaking out against it until that hate speech is silent.
They also condemned the recent hate speech against Infidels and Jews that came from a local a mosque in Toronto in which broke news across the GTA.
Since M-103 was passed in Ontario, numerous protests have been occurring in which other groups have countered attack them which resulted in violence and fights.
I know to many of you all, you believe you don’t believe in feminism or consider feminism is worse than cancer.
But this wave does spread and it rises up the feminist inside of us. It’s just wave 1.2.
